Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Nolan Wheeler

Nolan Wheeler, a senior on the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team, has been named our Athlete of the Week for his remarkable contributions on the field.

Wheeler’s soccer prowess has been on full display throughout the 2023 season, earning him this well-deserved recognition. His remarkable ability to score goals and assist his teammates has been instrumental in the success of the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs.

Wheeler’s incredible goal-scoring record has turned heads this season. He currently leads his team with a staggering 30 goals, showcasing his exceptional skill in finding the back of the net. Wheeler scored five goals against Effingham, then turned around with six goals against Urbana. His consistency in finding scoring opportunities has made him a standout player on the team.

One of Wheeler’s standout performances came in a recent match against Mattoon when he collected his team-high fourth hat trick of the season, sparking a convincing 5-0 victory at home. Not only did he find the net three times himself, but he also contributed an assist, underlining his all-around impact on the game.

Wheeler’s contributions extend beyond individual matches. He played a pivotal role in securing the team’s 11th shutout of the season in an 8-0 win at Danville.

The senior’s leadership and consistent excellence have helped Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ soccer team maintain an impressive season record of 13-4-4. The team currently holds the top spot in the Apollo Conference with a 7-0-2 record, and a win in their upcoming match against Taylorville will secure the outright title for the Bulldogs, marking their fourth title in the past five years.

In the last two years, Wheeler has amassed 151 points, including 64 goals and 12 assists.
