MSJHS wins Bulldog Invitational

Emma Baker tallied seven points on Thursday (Oct. 5) as the Mahomet-Seymour seventh-grade girls’ basketball team topped Tolono Unity, 31-5, to win the championship of the Bulldog Invitational.

The Bulldogs allowed just one second-half point.

Scoring four points apiece for M-S were Amelia Blackman, Cambria Clark, Kennedy Lee and Nora Robinson.

Finishing with two points each were Olivia Banister, Phoebe Graham, Layla Nagle and Clara Ummel.

On Monday (Oct. 9), M-S recorded a 22-10 win at Champaign Edison, led by Clark’s six points. Netting four points apiece were Emma Baker, Graham, Lee and Banister.

M-S built a 16-4 halftime lead.

On Tuesday (Oct. 10), the Bulldogs suffered their first loss since the season-opener, 24-21, at Urbana.

The setback snapped an 11-game winning streak.

Clark nailed a team-high 10 points. Lee tossed in four points. Contributing two points apiece were Banister, Graham and Marlee Roberts. Baker hit a free throw.

The M-S seventh-graders have an 11-2 overall record.

The Bulldog eighth-graders swept into an 11-2 first-quarter lead en route to a 29-16 triumph over Unity.

Charlotte Sinclair notched a team-high eight points. Audra Martin added five points.

Tallying four points each were Katie Hunter and Penelope Bird. Kennedy Ashby contributed three points. Faith Benedict and Maci O’Connell notched two points each and Lily Freiman hit one point.

On Monday (Oct. 9), Sinclair hit 10 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 24-15 win at Champaign Edison.

Cloward and Freiman scored four points apiece. Ashby added three points, Hunter made two points and Martin contributed one point.

M-S led, 20-8, after three quarters.

On Tuesday (Oct. 10), M-S secured a 20-10 victory at Urbana. Freiman and Ashby led a balanced offensive attack with six and five points, respectively.

Finishing with two points each were Bird, Cloward, Hunter and Sinclair. Martin’s one point came from the free throw line.

The M-S eighth-graders have an 11-2 overall record.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday (Oct. 16) at home against Normal Chiddix.
