Mahomet-Seymour finishes second at Pekin Invitational

Led by all-tournament selections Avery Allen and Ellie Dallas, Mahomet-Seymour’s volleyball team finished second on Saturday (Sept. 30) in the eight-school Pekin Invitational.

The Bulldogs whipped Peoria Notre Dame (25-17,25-15), Pekin (25-22, 25-16), Eureka (25-11, 25-20) and Chillicothe IVC (21-25, 25-17, 25-16) to extend their winning streak to seven matches before losing in the championship match to Lena-Winslow (25-24, 25-27, 25-20).

On Thursday (Sept. 28), M-S improved to 5-1 in Apollo Conference matches with a 25-21, 25-19 win at home over Mattoon.

Lily Bosworth produced eight kills and two blocks. Ellie Barker totaled seven kills, two digs, one block and one service ace.

M-S (21-4) returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at Mount Zion. The Bulldogs have reached the 20-win mark for wins in volleyball for five consecutive seasons when a full schedule was played. The 2020-21 season was an abbreviated 16-match schedule due to COVID-19.

The Bulldogs captured the JV match against Mattoon, 25-7, 25-16. The M-S freshmen were also victorious, 25-10, 22-25, 15-13.
