Mahomet-Seymour boys’ cross country finishes third at Charleston Invite

In its season-opening cross-country meet on Saturday (Sept. 2), the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ team ran third in the 16-school Charleston Invitational.
Meet champion Tuscola finished with 45 points. Runner-up Mount Zion totaled 72 points and M-S ended with 80 points.
Two sophomores were the race leaders for the Bulldogs.
Auggie Gaudio was third in the 162-runner field with a 3-mile time of 16:06.17. Teammate Henry McMurry was 13th (16:32.06).
The next two M-S runners were juniors: Lukas Nykaza (15th in 16:41.50) and Zach Wilcoski (24th in 17:30.54).
Senior Lukas Carey finished 25th (17:26.12).
Following them were Kaleb Kasper (32nd in 17:50.18), Corban McMinn (41st in 18:14.10), Grant Smysor (50th in 18:14.30), Jack Van Hoorn (62nd in 19:09.44) and Blake Patrick (92nd in 20:17.30).
M-S will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 9) in the First to Finish Race at Peoria’s Detweiller Park.
