M-S 1600-relay wins News-Gazette Honor Roll girls’ track and field meet

Mahomet-Seymour’s 1,600-meter relay took home the first-place medals on Monday (May 15) at the 40th News-Gazette Honor Roll girls’ track and field meet at Urbana’s McKinley Field.

Chloe Bundren, Kira Smith, Kara Carney and Emma Frazier teamed up for a composite time of 4 minutes, 30.18 seconds.

The Bulldogs also had the second-place entry in the 3,200-meter relay. The foursome of Bundren, Callie Jansen, Jinan Abdo and Frazier were timed in 10:49.87.

The Bulldogs’ only state-qualifier who participated in the meet was pole-vaulter Kelsie Fuoss, who placed fourth at 9 feet, 7 inches.

Kendyl Petro was a top-10 placer in two individual events. She finished seventh in the discus (86 feet, 1 inch) and eighth in the shot put (29 feet, 8 inches).

Abi Weiss collected a sixth-place medal in the triple jump (29 feet, 8 inches).

Other M-S runners who fared well were Carney (fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.08 seconds), Bundren (fifth in the 1,600 meters in 5:51.20) and Holly Hawes (fifth in the 100 meters in 13.97 seconds).

Additionally, there was an open 1,600-meter race and M-S’ Kaile Jeffers ended 11th in 6:44.67.

Fuoss and the other M-S state-qualifiers will compete in the IHSA semifinals on Friday (May 19) at Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston.
