Maroons outlast Mahomet-Seymour Softball

All nine hitters in the Mahomet-Seymour softball lineup produced at least one hit on Thursday (April 20), but the Bulldogs fell short at Champaign Central when the Maroons scored a walk-off win with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-11 triumph.

At various points, M-S trailed, 4-0, 8-4 and 11-7. The Bulldogs never led but created ties at 4-4 and 11-11, the last one thanks to a four-run seventh inning.

Jenna Wade and Madisyn White were among the M-S offensive catalysts. Wade popped three hits and scored two runs. White contributed three runs scored and two hits along with two stolen bases.

Ava Henderson, who pitched all 6 2/3 innings, also collected two hits.

Rio Casillas had three RBI. Driving in two runs apiece were Madelyn Logsdon and Kayla McKinney. Logsdon and Lauren Ribbe each tallied two runs.

Henderson, who yielded just three earned runs, walked six and struck out three.

On Saturday (April 22), the Bulldogs swept an Apollo Conference doubleheader at Taylorville as M-S pitchers fired two complete games and issued just one walk in 13 combined innings.

Henderson worked the opener, won by M-S 12-2 in six innings. She allowed three hits, no walks and struck out one batter.

In the nightcap, a 9-4 Bulldog victory, Katherine Severns permitted five hits and one walk in seven innings. She fanned three hitters and did not allow an earned run.

Four Bulldogs had hits in each game: Logsdon, McKinney, Wade and White.

Logsdon was 5-for-8 for the twin bill with four RBI. She smacked a double and two triples. White was 4-for-9 for the doubleheader and has produced at least two hits in four consecutive games. She scored four runs. Wade was 4-for-7 with five runs scored. McKinney was 2-for-7 with two RBI.

Casillas contributed two hits and four RBI in the opener. Henderson had three hits in Game 1. Kenadi Granadino was 2-for-5 with two RBI in Game 2.

M-S (6-10) returns to action on Tuesday (April 25) at Normal Community. The Bulldogs are 4-4 in Apollo Conference action.
