Mahomet-Seymour relays finish first Mount Zion Invitational

Mahomet-Seymour athletes secured four first-place finishes and four second-place finishes on Saturday (April 6) in the non-scored Mount Zion Invitational boys’ track and field meet.

The Bulldogs had two individual winners and two relays which were triumphant.

Travis Hoffman raced to victory in the 300-meter hurdles (43.72 seconds).

Robert Byron was the shot put winner (48 feet, 1 inch).

The relays which were victorious were the 400-meter relay and a sprint-medley relay, which covered a distance of 800 meters.

The 400 relay foursome featured Hoffman, Jayvon Irwin and DeAngelo Hughey. Their time was 43.81 seconds.

On the sprint medley relay, Cole Marshall and Irwin each ran 100-meter legs, followed by Ryken Kirby with a 200-meter leg. Anchor Hughey finished with a 400-meter leg. Their composite time was 1:37.12.

Joshua Franklin was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles (45.08 seconds) and Marshall was second in the triple jump (42 feet, 4 inches).

The 1,600-meter relay foursome of Marshall, Hughey, Parker Wilkins and Ben Wallace were second in 3:39.62. Hughey had the quickest split (49.4 seconds).

M-S had a distance medley relay which took second in 11:26.67 for 4,000 meters. Hayden Grotelueschen ran 1,200 meters. He was followed by Blake Dillman (800 meters), Grant Smysor (400 meters) and Ethan Ramirez (1,600 meters). The split for Ramirez was 4:46.4.

Pole vaulter Ty Clark ended in third place (12 feet, 10 inches) as did shot putter Caleb Boykin (42 feet, 4 inches).

Hughey placed fourth in the long jump (18 feet, 9 inches).

Three relays also secured fourth-place finishes, including the 4,000-meter distance medley unit of Kaleb Kasper, Colin Johnson, Henry Carpenter and Wallace. Their combined time was 12:14.99.

The sprint medley relay unit of Alex O’Brian, Dylan Smith, Franklin and Wilkins was in fourth and timed in 1:46.01.

Additionally, the freshmen-sophomore sprint medley relay ended fourth in their division, with a time of 1:54.40. Sharing the baton were Raife Humes, Camden Snodsmith, Jael Briones and Keenan Olivero.

Placing fifth were Trevor Reeves (99 feet, 5 inches in the discus), Snodsmith (5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump) and Alex Carpenter (11 feet in the pole vault).

The 800-meter relay grouping of Irwin, Kirby, Matthew He and Smith were timed in 1:38.97 and also ended in fifth place.

M-S returns to action on Monday (April 10) in their only home meet, at 4:30 p.m., against Monticello.
