By Fred Kroner
Karley Yergler and her Mahomet-Seymour softball team came out on top Tuesday (March 29) in a masterful pitching duel at Stanford Olympia.
M-S won 3-1, scoring twice in the top of the seventh, in a game where Yergler and her pitching counterpart (Danika Frazier) each allowed two hits while striking out 20 batters in a seven-inning game.
The Bulldogs created a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning on Abbey Akers’ solo home run.
Maddie Cortez scored the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning and Brooke Howard added an insurance run.
Yergler walked one batter and struck out every batter in the Olympia lineup at least once. M-S received two walks.
Akers was the lone Bulldog batter not to strike out.
In three games this spring, Yergler has yielded eight hits in 21 innings while fanning 45 batters as she continues her ascent up the M-S career strikeout list. She has issued three walks.
M-S (3-0) returns to action on Saturday (April 2) with a doubleheader at Lincoln.
