Bulldog baseball bounces back to defeat Stanford Olympia

One day after being shut out in its first loss of the spring, the Mahomet-Seymour baseball team reached double figures in runs scored for the fourth time on Tuesday (March 29) at home.
The Bulldogs upended Stanford Olympia, 11-5, thanks in part to home runs by Carter Johnson and Carter Selk.
Johnson, who also stole a base, drove in four runs. Selk knocked in two runs as did Chase Wagers.
Joining Johnson and Selk with two hits apiece were Braden Houchin, Alex McHale and Brayden Smith.
Houchin, McHale, Smith and Mateo Casillas all scored two runs.
Starting pitcher Zach Courson struck out six batters in three innings and picked up his first win of the season.
He was followed to the mound by Evan Ruzich and McHale, each of whom hurled two scoreless innings while registering four strikeouts apiece.
On Monday (March 28), M-S came out on the short end of a pitcher’s duel and dropped a 1-0 decision at Teutopolis.
Both squads managed just two hits and received four walks.
T-Town scored the lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Bulldog reliever Casillas issued three walks.
M-S starter Blake Wolters pitched five scoreless innings, yielding two singles. He walked one batter and struck out eight.
In three outings this spring, covering 13 innings, Wolters has fanned 27 batters and permitted three hits and one unearned run. He has walked three batters.
The M-S hits were singles by Selk and Jaedon Lager. Houchin drew two walks and stole two bases.
M-S (3-1) returns to action on Saturday (April 2) with a doubleheader at home against Lincoln. The Bulldogs are 3-0 at home thus far this season.
