Bulldogs on seven-game win streak

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team increased its winning streak to seven games on Saturday (Jan. 29) with a 48-37 win at home over Effingham.
Two days earlier, the Bulldogs thumped Charleston, 61-20, in the Trojans’ gym.
Against Effingham, Cayla Koerner matched her season’s high with four three-point baskets as part of her 23-point outing. She also pulled down six rebounds and had five steals.
Ivie Juarez and Nichole Taylor each chipped in with nine points. Taylor garnered seven rebounds and Juarez had five.
M-S trailed, 16-14, after one quarter but had spurted ahead, 27-22, at halftime.
Against Charleston, Koerner led a balanced attack with 15 points to go with a team-high six steals.
Juarez and Savannah Orgeron each tossed in eight points. Juarez led all Bulldogs with 11 rebounds, matching her season’s high.
Taylor registered seven points to go with eight rebounds. Alayna DeWitt nailed two three-pointers and totaled six points. Chloe Pruitt pulled down four rebounds and Abigail Bunting collected three steals.
M-S (22-4 overall and 7-3 in Apollo Conference play) returns to action on Monday (Jan. 31) at Centennial.
