Barber Park Amphitheater to be completed by Aug. 2022

The Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department has announced the Barber Park amphitheater will be completed by August 2022.

Improvements will include the addition of a permanent stage, hardscape and lawn seating areas and supporting pathways at the 55 acre park that hosts soccer fields. MPRD also plans to include a new fully inclusive playground, a splash pad and additional accessible paved pathways.

Nearly half of the funding for the project has been made possible through an Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space and Land Development Grant.  The remaining funds will derive from naming rights sponsorships, including a $25,000 gift from Fisher National Bank for the amphitheater, $50,000 from the Mahomet Lions Club alongside $75,000 from Lisa and Bill Piethman for the splash pad, and individual gifts in addition to parks capital funds.

Additional donations are being accepted through www.facebook.com/mahometsprayandplay or can be made by contacting MPRD at 217.586.6025.
