Sam Henrichs and Nate Lundstrom each had hat tricks on Tuesday (March 9) as Mahomet-Seymour’s defending Apollo Conference boys’ soccer champions opened the 2021 season at home with a 9-0 shutout over the newest Apollo member, Teutopolis.
M-S led at halftime 7-0.
Besides the three goals, Henrichs and Lundstrom had one assist apiece.
“Mahomet was pretty solid top to bottom with everyone contributing,” Bulldog coach Jeremy Davis said. “A lot of new names appeared in the scoring column. Tucker Antonacci, Sam Henrichs and Nick Tjahjadi earned their first starts and were able to make immediate contributions in the scoring column.”
Antonacci netted two goals. Tjahjadi made his debut with one goal and two assists.
Finishing with one assist apiece were Clayton Gibson, Xavier Schmidt, Jonah Singer and Logan Woodward.
Goalkeeper Keagon Ashby registered two saves in his first shutout of the year.
“Credit to the defensive line and Logan Woodward for stifling the Wooden Shoe build-up and avoiding much pressure on the Bulldog goal,” Davis added.
The M-S junior varsity won, 6-0. Kai Jones had a hat trick in his first high school game.
The Bulldogs (1-0) return to action on Saturday (March 13) at home against Champaign Central at the Middletown Field.
