Sam Mitchaner takes second to kick off the M-S golf season

Mahomet-Seymour’s Sam Mitchaner fired an 87 and was the second-place sophomore in Monday’s season-opening golf meet at Urbana Country Club.
As a team, M-S placed eighth in the 16-team field. The Bulldogs’ composite was 371. Meet champion Champaign Central finished with a 323.
Grant Harvey and Jameson Drinkwalter each posted 93s for the Bulldogs. Curtis Shoaf carded a 98 and Brandon Collins ended with a 99. The other M-S competitor was Brian Coyne, with a 106.
The Bulldogs’ next match will be against Blue Ridge on Tuesday at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.
Girls’ golf
M-S placed eighth in the 13-school Lady Trojan Scramble on Monday, in Charleston.
The top two-player score registered by the Bulldogs was a 44 by Hannah Cassel and Ainsley Winters. They tied for 12th place.
Bulldogs Rachel Burke and Sylvia Byron teamed up for a 51.
Emma Yates and Cecilia Abramson combined for a 56.
Team champion Effingham St. Anthony carded a 73. M-S totaled a 95.
M-S returns to action today against St. Thomas More and Normal West at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club.
