Village of Mahomet intends to purchase 5 parcels near downtown Mahomet
Mahomet, Ill. – The Village of Mahomet Board of Trustees announced its intent to purchase property to the east of the Village of Mahomet Administration Building, after an executive session on June 18.
The properties currently known as 511 E. Main St., 107 S. Jefferson St., 507 E. Main St., 201 S. Jefferson St. and 301 S. Jefferson St. will come at a $475,000 price tag.
In January, the Village of Mahomet put forth its Vision 2050 plan, which featured a green space, including sidewalks, benches, rain gardens and possibly a gazebo on the five parcels.
The entire plan envisions private investment to develop additional parking where the Sangamon playground currently stands, townhomes lining the south side of the park, multi-story mixed-use developments to the east, west and north of the property by the year 2050.
Public investment in the project may also include an additional park between Busey Bank and the Mahomet Post office. Townhomes are also envisioned to the east of the park.

The purchase agreement is slated for a June 25 vote by the Village of Mahomet Board. Financing for the purchase will come up in a July special board meeting.
