MSHS basketball drops game in State Farm Classic

Mahomet-Seymour took an early lead in Wednesday’s first-round game of the 40th State Farm Classic at Normal West High School.
But, the Bulldogs — who led 8-6 after one quarter — were outscored 20-7 in the second period and couldn’t recover in a 50-36 loss to Normal Community.
Kobe Essien scored a season-high 16 points to lead the Bulldogs (5-6). Season-long scoring leader Grant Coleman was held to one field goal and managed just nine points.
Coleman grabbed a team-high five rebounds The M-S assist leaders were Cole Lener with four and Dawson Finch with three.
Essien had a game-high three steals.
The Bulldogs, who have lost three consecutive games, hit 30.8 percent of their shots from the field (12 of 39).
M-S, which made 11 of 16 free throws, returns to action today at 9:30 a.m. against North Chicago. The game will be played at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center.
Girls’ basketball
The M-S girls’ open their tournament schedule at Decatur Eisenhower today with an 11:30 a.m. game against Kaneland.
The Bulldogs (7-5) will play twice on Friday and twice on Saturday
