Brown steps into Village Administrator role, Widener accepts Mayor role

Patrick Brown stepped down as Mahomet’s mayor during Tuesday night’s board meeting-only to be appointed Village administrator by acting Mayor Sean Widener later.

After the board spent nearly two months looking for a Village administrator replacement, Trustee Don Lynn announced that he thought Brown would be a good fit for the position. After Brown talked to Village board members, staff and community members, he decided to step down as mayor to accept the position.

Brown feels that the full-time Village administrator position will allow him to make the changes he was elected to do efficiently.

The Board of Trustees unanimously elected Trustee Sean Widener as the acting Mayor for Brown’s remaining two-and-a-half year term. Widener has decided to hold onto his Trustee seat until the 2015 elections.

Widener believes with all the changes happening within the administrative staff and potentially on the board, it is important to keep as much consistency as possible. He will revisit his decision after the election.
