MAYC holds community celebration for new facility on November 18
The Mahomet Area Youth Club invites the Mahomet community to the dedication of the new MAYC facility located at 700 W. Main on November 18 from 2 to 5 p.m.
The formal building dedication will begin 3:00 pm and will be hosted by the Mahomet Area Youth Club Executive Director, Chad Hoffman.
The dedication will be directly followed by recognitions which will encompass: building contributors, room sponsors, building project donors, and the Phillip Eubanks Youth of the Year Award, among others.
Of the upcoming dedication Matt Difanis, Building Committee Chairman said, “This event serves to celebrate a significant milestone in the life of Mahomet Area Youth Club. Since the club’s inception starting in 1994 as the Mahomet Boys and Girls Club, it has continued to expand to serve the needs of even more Mahomet and area youth. The purchase of the 700 W. Main facility gives us the capacity to make a difference in the community for decades to come.”
MAYC’s Executive Director Chad Hoffman said the new facility has served Mahomet’s youth well since opening doors on June 26, 2017.
The new facility allowed MAYC to grow their programming and divide children into similar-aged peers group for activities.
“We had a record number of youth attend the club this summer,” Hoffman said.
“The kids loved the new space,” he continued. “We could have our pool table, ping pong table, foosball table and air hockey table set up at the same time every day. There were rooms dedicated to Legos, games, crafts that allowed kids to spread out and participate in activities that were of most interest to them. The new playground is a huge plus as well since it’s significantly larger than our previous equipment.”
The new facility also allows MAYC to have a boardroom for monthly meetings. The MAYC board previously met off-site.
Hoffman said groups such as the Mahomet Rotary and Mahomet Chamber of Commerce have hosted meetings in the space. The Mahomet-Seymour ATLAS program uses the MAYC facility during the school year.
MAYC will also welcome students into the clubhouse from Dec. 27 – Dec. 29 and January 2 – 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for winter programming.
Hoffman went on to say, “MAYC’s accomplishments squarely rest on the shoulders of so many individuals who have had the foresight and determination to make MAYC a reality: the visionaries, the volunteers, and the donors. I join with the MAYC Board of Directors in publicly recognizing our founding supports as well as those who have stepped up to bring the new MAYC clubhouse to fruition.”
