The Bulldogs didn’t let the first three quarters affect what transpired in the fourth period on Tuesday.
After three quarters in a non-conference boys’ basketball game at Normal Community, M-S was 0-for-4 from the free throw line.
During the last eight minutes the team sunk 9 of 10 free throws to pull away from the Ironmen, 59-52.
Grant Coleman and Eli Warren were each 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch.
“We let Community pressure us in the third and we had some unforced errors that were aided by a tough road environment,” M-S coach Ryan Bosch said. “However, the kids responded well and Eli Warren and Grant Coleman’s clutch performances at the free throw line sealed the deal.
“Really a great overall win.”
Coleman hit a team-high 20 points. Braden Finch tallied 17 points. Warren added eight points.
Coleman also contributed six rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. Luke Koller handled five rebounds.
Teammate Cole Lener led all players with eight assists.
M-S took control with a 17-2 second-quarter run.
“We came out of the gates strong at both ends and built our lead up to 31-11 at halftime,” Bosch said. “Grant Coleman’s 14 first-half points set an early tone and Braden Finch had 10 first-half points.”
M-S (12-10) returns to action on Friday at Mount Zion before returning home on Saturday to face Effingham in a makeup game.
