A list of “America’s 50 Best Cities to Live In” published by 24/7 Wall St. placed Mahomet, Ill. as the 38th best place to live in the United States.
The list takes into account two dozen metrics related to affordability, economy, standard of living, and community. Data to make the decision came from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Sitting at the top of the list was Manhattan Beach, Ca., followed by Winnetka, Ill., Hanover, N.H., Highland Park, Tex., and Piedmont, Ca.
Highlights for Mahomet included a 2.8-percent average unemployment rate over a 5-year period with a median household income of $115,619, nearly double the national median of $60,293. Between 2014 and 2018 the overall employment climbed 24.1-percent for Mahomet residents.
While 24/7 Wall Street said that household income was not a factor in the index, it also states that “many of the cities and towns on this list are relatively wealthy,” citing that “income is closely tied to several other measures used to create this list, including low crime and low unemployment.”
24/7 Wall Street also took into account areas with favorable conditions, such as short commute times, walkability, reliable public transit, affordability, job availability, entertainment options, cultural attractions, low crime, and access to places like grocery stores and hospitals.
Population growth of each town was also taken into consideration. Over the last 5 years, Mahomet, with a population of 8,327, has seen a 12.3-percent population change.
