10 Question Friday: Chris Bedford

About Chris,

1.  How long have you lived in Mahomet, what has your experience been like and why   did you move here?

My husband, daughter and I moved here in 1984.  We moved here because Mahomet is mid way between Urbana- where I worked and Clinton- where my husband Russ worked.  We’ve really enjoyed living here!

2.  If you or a family member has been working from home, taking classes remotely, etc… what is the greatest benefit?

We have not been working from Home since we’re both retired now but we have kept up with our club affiliations. It wasn’t the same as in person but it was better than nothing. We used zoom as well as group emails.

3. How did you cope with the freezing temperatures we had in February 2021?

I had to walk my dog twice a day after her surgery so we braved it with a coat for her snd thermal underwear and socks ( and coat, gloves, hat, scarf ) for me!

4.  Did you or your family do any kind of winter activities, if yes what was it?

My grandkids and I went sledding on our property.

5. What are your thoughts on the pandemic after having experienced it for a year?

I was very scared and nervous at the beginning/ I stocked up on food, meds etc.  my family and I were careful to follow cdc guidelines but half of our family got it anyway. We’re all ok! Now I think things are slowly returning to a new normal, but I can’t understand how some  people can disregard the guidelines.

6. What’s the most important thing you have learned from 2020?

I’ve learned that medical professionals and officials try hard to “get it right” but it’s up to the people to decide if they’re going to follow the advice and guidelines or not, whether they believe they’re protecting themselves and others or not. What seems like common sense to some is seen as an infringement of civil liberties to others.

(If this sounds too political feel free to use my second answer- wash your hands and wear a mask)

7. Do you have a bucket list? If yes, what are the top three items?

The only thing realistically on a “bucket list” is to visit my remaining relatives in Austria- I haven’t seen them since 1978.

8.  What’s your favorite time of the day and why?

I’ve never been a “ morning person” but I do enjoy my morning coffee on my front porch with in warm weather, so I can plan out my day.

9.  What’s your favorite book/tv/movie?

I read plenty of historical fiction but love anything by James A Michener.

I watch shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Married At First Sight and Resident Alien.  Favorite movies are Wizard of Oz, CasaBlanca and Gone With the Wind.

10.   What’s your definition/meaning of life?

“Life “ is a gift- an opportunity to make the world a better place
