10 Question Friday: Branda Farney

About Branda Farney

I grew up in LeRoy, IL and graduated from high school there.  Soon after graduation I got married and began my life together with Jerry these 54 years.  Jerry went to college and became a pastor; so, I became a pastor’s wife.  We lived away for 22 years in Ohio and Iowa pastoring before returning to central IL.  I worked beside my husband doing many ministry things to serve people.  Other “service” job are 10 years in a consignment shop;; 22 years in banking; and 22 years as a volunteer AARP tax preparer – all serving people.  We have one daughter, two granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren.  How did I get this old?!

1. Do you have any nicknames? How did you get them?

I can not recall any nicknames.  My husband calls me an endearing “Honey”.

2. What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

I’m sure there are many things; but, I can’t think of one right now.

3. What advice would you give your 16-year old self?

Remember the moral teachings from God and parents – it saves a lot of mistakes and  better choices are made.

4. Do you have a favorite line from a movie?

No, I really don’t.  I am not a movie watcher and seldom remember any specific lines.

5. Would you rather go 30 days without your phone or your entire life without dessert?

I would rather go 30 days without my phone.  I am a dessert person, and it would be hard to go a lifetime without sweets.

6. When was the last time you did something for the first time? What did you do?

I read a newspaper article several years ago about the Canteen Run for the homeless in Champaign.  I was interested in helping this good cause.  So, about 3 years ago I started volunteering to make PB&J sandwiches for the daily runs – 40-60 sandwiches 2 to 3 times a month.

7. Would you rather be a fish in a tank or in the open water?

I believe I would rather be in a fish tank.  The tank has boundaries which would make me more secure.  The open water would be daunting with no defining directions and searching aimlessly.

8. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I don’t remember as a kid. In my teen years I wanted to be an accountant, but didn’t have the opportunity to go to college.  Then life took me in many different directions, but often working with numbers.

9. Where is your favorite place to get takeout in Champaign County?

We rarely do takeout or even eat out very often.  In the aging process things change.

10. What’s the milestone you’re working towards right now in your personal and professional life?

Since I’m in retirement, I still have a focus of helping others – encouraging, meeting needs where possible, preparing tax returns , volunteering, each day can present new opportunities.  Family is also very important.
