A hat trick by Nolan Wheeler and goalkeeper Zach Beyer’s 13th shutout of the season enabled the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team to tie the school-record for single-season wins with an 8-0 win on Saturday (Oct. 15) in the final regular-season match at Bloomington.

M-S led, 5-0, at halftime.

The 2019 M-S squad also won 17 matches.

Kia Jones netted two goals to go with one assist in the regular-season finale. Isaac Warren and Brian Woodbury each hit one goal.

Other assists were by Nick Tjahjadi (two), Aaron Smith (two) and Carson Reed (one).

At Bloomington, coach Jeremy Davis said, “the Bulldogs controlled the game well, but unfortunately did come out of it a bit banged up heading into their (Class 2A) postseason regional matchup on Tuesday night against Centennial.

“In the deepest regional field I’ve seen in my decade of coaching, the No. 4 seed Bulldogs will take on the No. 5 seeded Chargers at Urbana High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.”

On Thursday (Oct. 13), Wheeler scored four goals as the M-S boys’ soccer team locked up the Apollo Conference championship with an 8-0 win at Taylorville.
