By Fred Kroner

It took until the third inning on Monday (April 18) for the Mahomet-Seymour softball offense to kick into gear, but once the Bulldogs got rolling, they recorded a 16-2 win at Champaign Central.

Central carried a 1-0 lead into the third inning. M-S scored twice in the third to take the lead for good.

Sydney Ward rapped three hits to lead the Bulldogs. Five teammates contributed two hits apiece: Abbey Akers, Maddie Cortez, Jayden Hannah, Chloe Truax and Jenna Wade.

Cortez had two doubles and drove in three runs. Kenadi  Grandino, Brooke Howard and Ward all knocked in two runs.

Akers and Ward both tallied three runs. Scoring twice apiece were Jami Marriott, Truax and Karley Yergler.

Yergler pitched a five-inning three-hitter, walking no one and striking out 12. Both runs she allowed were unearned.

M-S (12-2) returns to action on Saturday (April 23) at home against Taylorville.
