Mills Clothing Co. celebrates first year

By Isabella Zarate

Jenny Mills, wife, mom, and once employed in the field of medical devices has taken on a new title – entrepreneur.

Post-pandemic, Mills spent her time at home raising her two boys. Though, as time passed, she found herself wanting more.

“What am I going to do when my 4-year-old goes to kindergarten next year,” Mills wondered.

The idea of being a stay-at-home mom, with no kids at home was not in the books for Mills. So, she began brainstorming some things she could do to occupy herself. And, Mills Clothing Co. was born.

The question of what to do had been in the back of Mill’s mind for a little over a year, and with that, the idea of designing t-shirts.

Once Mills finally opened the doors to her new adventure, things really took off. “September fifteenth I made my first sale.”

“It has been so busy,” she added, “And I’m so thankful.”

In just two short months, Mills has found herself in a whirlwind of sorts.“I never imagined I would be this busy this fast.”

According to Mills, Mills Clothing Co. specializes in designing “any garment that can be printed on.”

Whether it be shirts, sweatshirts, tank tops, or even masks, Mills can likely make it.

While this newfound path seems a far stretch from Mills’ previous road, she attributes the idea to both her dad and her creativity. Mills shared how, growing up, her father owned a sign printing business, where he often dabbled in shirts as well. “I would always help him.”

“I kind of knew what I was getting into before getting into,” she said.

On top of her childhood experiences, Mills herself acknowledged her crafty side. “I’ve always been a really crafty person.”

“I’ve always just had that part of me that wanted to make things with my hands.” Mills went on, “I have a need to do that, it’s fulfilling.”

As for the technique, Mills’ creations are the product of sublimation printing. A concept where the ink is infused into the garment rather than adhered to the top.

Mills explained, “ “it won’t peel or crack with washes, it’s just always there.” Furthermore, “If you run your finger over the garment you don’t feel anything.”

At this point, the majority of Mill’s products include Bulldog spirit wear and holiday-themed collections.
