MAYC provides maps of road closures for Mahomet Half Marathon, 10K and 5K

As the Mahomet Area Youth Club gears up for the annual Mahomet Half Marathon, 10K and 5K on August 5, they also want to inform community members that the race will affect several roads throughout Mahomet.

The half marathon and 10 K start at 7:00am and will be completed by 10:15am. The half marathon runners follow the 5K course to State Street, then continue on Turkey Farm Road into the country.

The 5K starts at 7:20am and will be finished by 8:40am. Most runners will be off of the village streets, except for Crowley Road, by 8:30am.

Volunteers will be stationed at intersections while runners are on the roads, and will be supported by the Mahomet Police, Illinois State Police and the Champaign County Sheriff to control traffic. State Street will be closed between Turkey Farm Road and Division Street from 6:50am until 7:45am. Turkey Farm Road will be reduced to one lane (the west lane) from 7:00am until approximately 7:45am, and Crowley Road will be closed between State Street and CR 2400N from 7:00am to about 10:00am.

Residents who live along the route are encouraged to participate in the race by generating excitement on race morning.

The Mahomet Area Youth Club suggests playing music, cheering or providing entertainment for runners along the way.

Here are some examples:

-Host a lawn party for your family and neighbors, complete with signs, decorations, music, and food.

-If you are in a band or know someone who is, set up the band in your driveway and greet the runners with a live music show!

-Plug in your “boom box”!

-Say “Thank you for running in our community!” with a high 5 or “Go Runners!” shout.

-If it is a hot day, a sprinkler at the side of the road that the runners can run through if they choose will be greatly appreciated.

MAYC recommends celebrations that do not interfere with the run, and asks residents to avoid rummage or garage sales on this day as they pose traffic hazards to runners.
