Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team is spending extra time on the court as the regular season nears an end.

Three days after posting an overtime victory, M-S needed two overtimes on Monday (Feb. 6) to subdue Normal University, 61-55, at home.

The teams were tied, 44-44, after regulation and 48-48, after the first four-minute OT.

Savannah Orgeron totaled 10 of her game-high 25 points in the second OT (including 6-for-6 from the free throw line) as the Bulldogs pulled away.

U-High limited Orgeron to three first-half points.

Teammate Durbin Thomas posted a season-high 22 points, 16 coming after intermission. Thomas made all four of the Bulldogs’ points in the first OT.

Abby Bunting (two points) and Thomas (one point) also reached the scoring column in the second OT.

Kylie Waldinger contributed six points overall and Bunting totaled four points. Adding two points apiece were Grace Binkley and Reese Gallier.

Waldinger pulled down a team-best four rebounds. Gathering three rebounds apiece were Gallier and Thomas.

Bunting wound up with four steals. Thomas and Waldinger had three steals. Ellie Dallas ended with two steals.

Bunting also blocked two shots.

M-S led, 11-9, after one quarter and 19-16 at halftime. Orgeron notched nine third-quarter points as the Bulldog lead grew to 34-27 after three quarters.

M-S (22-8) will close out the regular season with a Thursday (Feb. 9) home game against Lincoln.

Lincoln is the undisputed Apollo Conference champion and has a 29-0 season record. The Railsplitters have had just one game settled by fewer than 19 points and own a 25-point win over M-S. The Bulldogs are 7-4 in league play and could finish in a tie for second place with a win.

The Bulldogs will also play at home next week in a Class 3A regional tournament they will host. Top-seeded M-S faces eighth-seeded Danville (0-20) in the semifinals on Tuesday (Feb. 14).
