Guide to Mahomet Halloween Fun

By Will Payne

Here in Mahomet, the leaves are beginning to change, and the weather is getting a little cooler.

Although the fun days of summer are behind us, Halloween is coming very soon! Luckily for citizens throughout the Mahomet area, there are several fun activities for both kids and

adults planned in the Village during the next few weeks.

For all your pumpkin-related activities, Crowley Farms has been up and running since mid-September. Located on 435 CR 2500 N in Mahomet, a variety of pumpkins and other vegetables are available for purchase.

If you want to carve pumpkins, make some delectable pumpkin seeds, or maybe even pick out some gords ahead of next month’s Thanksgiving, look no further than Crowley Farms. They’re open Monday-Wednesday and Friday (closed on Thursday) from 6pm-8pm; and on the weekends, Crowley Farms operates on Saturday from 9am-5pm and Sunday from 9am-3pm.

In the weeks leading up to Halloween throughout the month of October, there are several events throughout Mahomet. The first of these is on October 16 from 2 to 5 at the Museum of the Grand Prairie. Fun events like pumpkin carving and decorating, hay-rack rides, apple peeling are just $5 per person. Registration required by October 14 at ccfpd.org. Registered guests will receive one pumpkin per registrant. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Current public health guidelines will be followed.

On October 22 the Champaign County Forest Preserve will also host Halloween Fun at the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden from 2-4 p.m.

Located behind the Museum of the Grand Prarie in the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, there will be several different activities, with kids and adults alike being invited to wear their favorite Halloween costume.

Halloween Fun will have a scavenger hunt around the garden to find decorations, a holiday themed craft, and sidewalk chalk for the kids to help decorate the garden. No registration is required, as the event is free, however children must be accompanied by an adult.

The following day, the 3rd annual Trunk or Treat Halloween Bash will be held at 705 W Hickory St. in Mahomet from 4-11 p.m. This event will include Trunk or treating from 4-5 p.m., food for everyone present, as well as both children and adult costume contests. At 7 p.m., DJ Steve

Yancy will be performing for the remainder of the night for your entertainment.

Along with the scheduled events, there will also be a contest with a cash prize for who has the best Halloween decorated vehicle (can be either your car, truck or golf cart). This Halloween Bash is available to the public.

Grace Church will also hold their annual Trunk or Treat event on October 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. This family-friendly event encourages children to show off their costumes while receiving candy in a safe way.

To close out the fun-filled month, the Mahomet Public Library is hosting Book or Treat on October 30th from 1-5 p.m. This event is available for children 0-12, and they must be accompanied by an adult. All interested in Book or Treat can stop by the library in their Halloween costumes to pick up a goodie bag from Youth Programming Librarian, Maura.

Due to COVID-19 policies, all citizens must adhere to masking and social distancing policies while in the Mahomet Public Library.

Trick or Treat hours in Mahomet run from 6 to 8 p.m., rain or shine.
