District to host Bulldog Blueprint meetings in April

The Mahomet-Seymour School District seeks input from community members as they continue to work toward a long-term facility plan.

Starting on the evening of April 22 and extending into the fall, Mahomet-Seymour School  District will host a series of community engagement meetings aimed at outlining principles that will guide the plan.

“While our buildings have been kept in good condition,” commented Mahomet-Seymour  superintendent Dr. Lindsey Hall, “we do have some challenges with aging facilities and growing  enrollment. Our Board of Education is turning to the community for advice and counsel on how best to  develop a long-range plan for making sure our facilities are well maintained, up-to-date, and able to  accommodate today’s best practices in classroom instruction.”

While created and supported by the Board of Education, the Bulldog Blueprint program is citizen-led and  will have extensive citizen participation. “It is vitally important for all members of the community to  attend,” commented co-chair Jama Grotelueschen. “That’s why we are offering both in-person and  virtual options for our meetings this spring. Only with diverse and informed voices can we develop an  effective long-range plan for our District.”

The first in-person meeting will be held on April 22, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the Middletown Prairie Elementary School gym. Virtual options for attending this first session will be held on April 27 at 6:30 p.m. or  11:30 a.m. on April 29.   The district asks that participants register at  www.bulldogblueprint.com .

Each session will begin with a presentation that provides key information about the topic at hand. Participants will then work in small groups to discuss and reach a consensus on responses to a short work activity. Each group will then share its conclusions with everyone in attendance.

Discussions will be led by 20 community members tasked with serving on the Bulldog Blueprint committee.

The board of education also hired BLDD Architects, the District’s Architect of Record, for a base amount of $20,000 and an additional $40,000 should a referendum pass in April of 2022.

Input received will be documented and available for review on the District website.

Information gathered from the workshops will  serve as the basis for a summary report that will be presented to the Board of Education later this year.
