Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball on four-game win streak

Mahomet-Seymour made six three-point shots in the fourth quarter on Wednesday (Feb. 17) to pull away from visiting Effingham in an Apollo Conference girls’ basketball game, 58-47.
The win was the fourth in a row for coach Garret Risley’s team.
The Bulldogs held a 36-31 lead after three quarters, but hit from long distance to put the game away.
Cayla Koerner drained three three-pointers late. Savannah Orgeron nailed two three-point shots and Durbin Thomas hit one in the final quarter. Orgeron has made at least one three-pointer in every game this season.
Koerner scored a season-high 23 points. Nichole Taylor had 12 points, Orgeron had eight points and Abigail Bunting ended with six points.
M-S trailed 12-10, after one quarter, but shot into a 25-20 halftime lead.
Taylor cleared a team-high eight rebounds to go with five steals and four blocked shots. Bunting collected six steals. Koerner had four rebounds and three steals while Chloe Pruitt grabbed three rebounds.
M-S (4-2) returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 18) at Lincoln in a game that marks the halfway point of the season.
