In its home-opener on Tuesday (May 2) at the Illini Grove Tennis Court the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ tennis team won every match in straight sets against Taylorville and recorded a 9-0 victory.
The M-S singles’ winners were Hayden Mitchell (No. 1), Quade Bristle (No.2), Jack Louis (No. 3), Keaton Roberts (No. 4), Aden Bergman (No. 5) and Phillip Daniels (No. 6).
Mitchell didn’t lose a game and Roberts dropped just one game.
In doubles, the Bulldogs’ winners were Jacob Atteberry and Leif Olson (6-1, 6-1 at No. 1), Louis and Daniels (6-0, 6-1 at No. 2) and Sam Hibbs and Louis Raquel (6-2, 6-2 at No. 3).
On Monday (May 8), St. Thomas More posted a 9-0 win over M-S.
The Bulldogs’ hard-luck losers were Mitchell (No. 5), who suffered a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 14-12 loss to the Sabers’ Wyatt Kirby and the No 3 M-S doubles’ duo of Caleb Bushue and Aden Bergman, who were edged by Will Devocelle and Christian Garcia, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 20-6.
M-S (2-3) returns to action on Friday (May 12) in the two-day Apollo Conference Tournament at Effingham.
