Bulldogs advance in Class 4A regional

Mahomet-Seymour’s seventh-grade boys’ basketball team turned the tables on visiting Champaign Franklin on Tuesday (Jan. 24) in an IESA Class 4A regional semifinal game in the Bulldogs’ gym.

The Bulldogs posted a 40-18 victory.

Trailing 12-10 at halftime, M-S made the outcome a no-doubter thanks to a 19-0 third-quarter spurt.

Tristen Adams scored 10 points in the quarter, accounting for all of his game totals.

Jackson Golden netted six of his game-high 19 points in the third period. Konner Fisher’s three-pointer were the other Bulldog points in the period.

Bradley Jones hit five points, Brennan Bailey had two points and Luke Buh added a free throw.

M-S is 23-2 and carries a seven-game winning streak into the regional title game against Danville North Ridge on Wednesday (Jan. 25) at 4:30 p.m. in Mahomet, weather permitting.

M-S is the No. 1 seed in the tournament and North Ridge, which put up 65 points in its 31-point semifinal win on Tuesday, is the No. 2 seed. Champaign Franklin was the No. 4 seed.

With Fisher sinking a season-high five three-pointers on Thursday (Jan. 19), the M-S seventh-graders won what is believed to be a school season-record 22nd game.

The Bulldogs closed out their regular-season schedule with a 56-19 win at home over Normal Kingsley.

Fisher netted a game-high 17 points.

Golden registered 16 points. Adding six points apiece were Adams and Preston Clark.

Clark made two three-pointers and Jude McWilliams netted one three-pointer.

The seventh-graders are now 15-0 this season in home games.

The M-S eighth-graders suffered a 27-22 loss at home to Kingsley.

Paxson O’Malley hit a game-high 10 points. Parker Henry scored six points. Bryson Tiefenthaler made four points and Eli Dyer added the team’s other two points.

The eighth-graders, who did not go to the free throw line against Kingsley, are 16-8 overall with wins in six of their last eight games.

The Bulldog eighth-graders open their postseason journey at home on Saturday (Jan. 28) at 11:30 a.m. against sixth-seeded Urbana in quarterfinal-round action. M-S is the No. 3 seed.

In a regular-season game, M-S defeated Urbana in overtime.
